FW 19 Favorites

our heiday stationery
As much as we enjoyed traveling the past two weeks, it’s been such a warm welcome back home - there’s nothing like the comfort of your own bed, no matter how nice those hotel sheets are, and the rhythms of the day-to-day to come back to. Stepping back into the studio and connecting again with the team was also a warm squeeze. Truly, home is where your people are.

Tokyo Travel Diary

Tokyo Travel Diary
Hello from Tokyo! I’m sitting in the dark next to a sleeping toddler and the sound of the water running from the shower as we settle in after a full day, bellies content from the kobe beef we splurged on for dinner. Traveling in a big city with six adults, a three year old, and 15 month old is no easy feat, but daily I’m so grateful for this amazing adventure we’re on, the blessing of this opportunity.

To think that in two days we’ll be on a plane to Tokyo is beyond. Words can’t adequately express what has transpired through this past year of preparation, but the last box has been closed, final ribbons tied. We’re so excited to see what this next week will hold.

Celebrating Our Dads

Celebrating Our Dads

Strangely, it seems like there’s a collective fanfare and sentimentality around Mother’s Day that Father’s Day, just a month later, lacks. Perhaps it’s the order of these celebrations that causes dads everywhere to be slightly overshadowed by their counterparts, or maybe a history of mamas shouldering the brunt of child-raising (so thankful these tides are turning). Whatever the case, we know firsthand that there are amazing, loving dads all around us that deserve just as much recognition.

Company Culture & Why it Matters

Company Culture & Why it Matters
More often than not, the day-to-day of running a small business looks like a long, disjointed checklist. The reality of having limited resources and big dreams is that we’re all wearing multiple hats on the daily. While I’d love to spend more mornings discussing the changing tides of the stationery industry or taking a course on small business finances or even simply thinking about these things, the more immediate needs take of the business simply have to take precedent. Of all the intangibles that simmer quietly on the backburner, one that we do try to give our constant attention to is company culture. Five years in, and we couldn’t overstate the necessity of fostering a strong, sustainable company culture that aligns with our business’s core values.

FW 19 Sneak Peek

FW 19 Sneak Peek
A true labor of love, these releases. When we first started Our Heiday, each new collection felt reactionary - a quick response to what was needed, trying to play catch up after all of the other small business things were taken care of (package the cards! run to USPS! buy more tape! take product photos!). It's been a couple of years now where I've had the breathing room to think more meticulously about what each collection needs to hold and only about a year since we've been able to plan releases a full year out. Even then, there are so many unexpected twists and turns that our team navigates affecting how the new comes together and it truly feels like a moment to celebrate when we've arrived. Thinking about getting these into your hands inspires us all over again. (:

Canvas For A Cause

our heiday canvas for a cause
We're so excited to launch our give-back campaign this year. Supporting young girls and education is something that Dot and I have consistently talked about since the beginning of Our Heiday and our goal is to weave more concerted giving into our business model.

To You, Younger Self

To You, Younger Self
Do you sometimes feel like you’re able to see your life in a reel? Flashes of 13 or 4 or 21 so vivid they feel like yesterday, but other times sorting through moments that mesh into one another, wondering whether they really happened the way your memory recalls. There are so many parts of my past that I now willingly revisit as I navigate life with Charlotte. Sitting in the heavy discomfort of particular seasons or laughing through the joy of others seems so necessary for me to be able to wisely steward my daughter as she grows into her own.

Happy Mother's Day from All of Us

Happy Mother's Day from All of Us

As we look forward to celebrating our moms this Sunday, we want to wish all of you a Happy Mother's Day! Whether you're honoring your mama, mom figures, or your own motherhood journey this weekend, we hope it's filled with the sweetest celebrations and the joy of togetherness. At the same time, we know this day can be a bittersweet one for some, tinged with the pain of loss or longing or complicated relationships. Wherever you find yourself, we wish you a lovely one and hope you find beauty in both the whole and broken places.
