FW 19 Sneak Peek

FW 19 Sneak Peek
A true labor of love, these releases. When we first started Our Heiday, each new collection felt reactionary - a quick response to what was needed, trying to play catch up after all of the other small business things were taken care of (package the cards! run to USPS! buy more tape! take product photos!). It's been a couple of years now where I've had the breathing room to think more meticulously about what each collection needs to hold and only about a year since we've been able to plan releases a full year out. Even then, there are so many unexpected twists and turns that our team navigates affecting how the new comes together and it truly feels like a moment to celebrate when we've arrived. Thinking about getting these into your hands inspires us all over again. (:

Canvas For A Cause

We're so excited to launch our give-back campaign this year. Supporting young girls and education is something that Dot and I have consistently talked about since the beginning of Our Heiday and our goal is to weave more concerted giving into our business model.

To You, Younger Self

To You, Younger Self
Do you sometimes feel like you’re able to see your life in a reel? Flashes of 13 or 4 or 21 so vivid they feel like yesterday, but other times sorting through moments that mesh into one another, wondering whether they really happened the way your memory recalls. There are so many parts of my past that I now willingly revisit as I navigate life with Charlotte. Sitting in the heavy discomfort of particular seasons or laughing through the joy of others seems so necessary for me to be able to wisely steward my daughter as she grows into her own.

Happy Mother's Day from All of Us

Happy Mother's Day from All of Us

As we look forward to celebrating our moms this Sunday, we want to wish all of you a Happy Mother's Day! Whether you're honoring your mama, mom figures, or your own motherhood journey this weekend, we hope it's filled with the sweetest celebrations and the joy of togetherness. At the same time, we know this day can be a bittersweet one for some, tinged with the pain of loss or longing or complicated relationships. Wherever you find yourself, we wish you a lovely one and hope you find beauty in both the whole and broken places.

Team Favorites: Mother's Day Edition

Team Favorites: Mother's Day Edition

There's something about honoring mamas, our own and other mom figures in our lives, that is so special. It's almost impossible to adequately describe our deep gratitude for these women with a few simple words, but our Mother's Day cards are some of our most heartfelt sentiments. From growing in our relationship with our sweet mama to becoming moms to our own precious daughters, this season holds a particular significance for us.

Today, we're doing a Mother's Day edition of Team Favorites, remembering our moms and chatting about our favorite cards from the collection. Our hearts are full from what each member of our team shared:

Truthfully, Small Business

Truthfully, Small Business
Before I came on board several years back, someone once told me that Pat must have the best job ever, sitting in the sunshine and painting all day. Four years and many, many hours later, I can tell you firsthand that the day-to-day is nowhere near that idyllic. Or simple. For every minute spent painting in the sunshine, there are what seems like eons of tedious editing, sifting through data reports, planning logistics for trade shows, cleaning up backend processes, navigating the incomprehensible world of taxes, organizing the warehouse. Nothing glamorous here, friends. Running a small business is amazing and fulfilling in so many ways, but it’s no stroll in the park.

Love Our Earth

Love Our Earth
Friends, it’s a big, big, big sale! In light of Earth Day, we’re hosting an online studio sample sale of slightly dinged or scuffed, but totally usable products - we want you to have them, use them, love them. Mark your calendars! The sale will be live for one week only from April 21-28th. Quantities are limited, so make sure you snag those things you’ve been eyeing.

The Beautiful, Messy Juggle

The Beautiful, Messy Juggle

This working/parenting juggle is not for the faint of heart. Even as I type this blog post on our dining table, I’m pausing to hand Haley little nuggets of a bran muffin and encourage her to take another sip of milk, to acknowledge the “bur!!” (bird) in the sky that she’s enthusiastically pointing to. Naturally, I’m a day behind schedule, scrambling to write this post while I should be getting ready for work, because this little lady decided last night was the perfect opportunity to fight sleep until 11p. And naturally, my husband worked the late shift.

Toddler In Tow, A Revisit

Toddler In Tow, A Revisit
Just over a year ago, I put together some thoughts on the working mama juggle when Charlotte was 20 months old. Rereading it, I’m glad to say that most of my words still ring true, that the dance is still being learned with all its missteps and victories. I see her little self in those pictures and can’t believe how much she’s grown, but also find comfort in how much has stayed the same. She’s now pedaling her own tricycle, eating her own ice cream, but we’re still running around the park, conversing about trees and colors (albeit more cohesively).

Loved Ones

If I’m being really honest, my memories of our wedding day are complicated. There’s a little hurdle I have to get over (what the rosy facade of big day fairytales have done to me, I suppose) to let myself see that day clearly. It was undoubtedly beautiful - a big party just steps away from the Malibu coast against the backdrop of a historical house, the perfect 80 degree weather at the start of October, magnolia leaves, a dress full of tulle, a custom suit. One of our favorite restaurants put together an entire spread of the most delicious Mexican-inspired dinner for each round table. We danced under market lights and the warm breeze.
