A Letter From Pat, Our Founder

Our lives have been forever changed navigating the loss with our community in the aftermath of the LA Fires. So many of my friends, the teachers and families at our schools, and customers at our shop - the list seems never ending - have lost their homes to the Eaton Fire. The foothills weave us closely with Altadena, a sister city of sorts, and it’s impossible to find someone who hasn’t been impacted. As a small business that has been built on community and connection, we’re choosing to operate our shop, Sidebloom, with arms open, inviting our neighbors to come as they are, holding the stories we have the honor of being invited into.

As the ash settles, I’ve been reflecting on how long and arduous the road of rebuilding will be, even more so for disadvantaged and disenfranchised people who have been displaced. As beautiful as it's been to witness and contribute to the channels of support for our friends and neighbors, there are so many whose stories remain buried - those without the social capital or technological savvy to start GoFundMes. We’ve also had countless conversations in the shop - how do we remember this moment, the immense loss, the immense love, the magnitude of it all. This collection is my response to both. 

At Our Heiday, we believe beauty is essential always, but particularly in the midst of tragedy. Scenes of Hope and Foundations are past collections that were direct responses to a collective crisis, driven by a desire to bring healing and flourishing in the way that beauty can. We hope Beauty From Ashes does the same, that it captures the spirit of what Los Angeles rose to be, and the hope that's ahead. 30% of the profits from this collection will be an ongoing donation to CORE, whose community-centric response has allowed them to respond to various global crises with the most underserved communities in mind - their mission has been so needed in this moment.

Our Process

From Pat’s initial designs to our final products and the orders that head out the door, we take great pride in the intentionality that touches every part of our process. New collections are inspired by noticing everyday moments both near and far - the way buds form at the turn of every season, the colors of the farmer’s market, the light patterns in a new city. Beauty is an essential part of thriving and we love being able to bring it to the everyday. We work closely with our production partners to ensure the quality of every product we release and each order is carefully hand-packed by our fulfillment team in the warehouse behind our brick and mortar, Sidebloom.

Our Partners

We would not be able to stand by our products without our partners. We work closely with four main production partners based both locally in Southern California and abroad in Guangzhou, China, and Vilnius, Lithuania. While our goal is to support the local economy whenever possible, we’ve committed to finding manufacturers with aligned values when we produce overseas. Our production partners in China are BSCI-certified, and Sedex-audited, complying with globally recognized supply chain, health, and environmental standards and protecting workers' rights. Our partnership with a small production studio in Lithuania allows us to control quality and small batch production using OEKO-TEX certified, European flax linen for our textile collections.

Beyond our mission to create collections that invite us to gift well and gather often, our core commitment is to do all things with hospitality and integrity. Our desire is that you would leave your experience here feeling better than you did when you first walked in, whether in-person or online. We use this approach both internally and externally - how we communicate as a team or with our customers, the UPS driver, production or brand partners. We believe that the values guiding how we do the smallest of things continue to ripple outward beyond our small corner of the world.
