Leftover Oatmeal Muffins, Alan Rickman, & Tiles

Happy three day weekend, friends!

Currently: Well, it’s been an eventful week at Our Heiday studio to say the least. It’s the kind of week where you can’t believe so many things can go right (an automatic inventory system! hooray!) while so many go wrong  (really? an entire shipment of damaged product?). But we’re learning to take both the good and the bad in stride. These moments will always come and go, so we simply respond, pivot, or celebrate (!) accordingly.

This week, we’re…

  • Feasting on these leftover blueberry oatmeal muffins from NY Times - yes, you read that right. These aren't just regular oatmeal muffins, but ones you can make using that big batch of leftover oatmeal you have sitting in the back of the fridge. We love us a good bowl of oatmeal these winter mornings, but sometimes you just gotta break out the waffle maker and let that oatmeal make magic elsewhere. Enter: these blueberry oatmeal muffins. Try subbing blueberries for bananas and adding chopped nuts if that’s your thing! With a hot cup of coffee and a little pat of butter, it’s the perfect little breakfast on-the-go.
  • Reflecting on David Radcliffe’s tribute to his co-star, Alan Rickman, who passed away from cancer yesterday. His words offer such a moving glimpse of who this beloved actor was beyond his roles in Die Hard and Harry Potter: kind, funny, encouraging, and present. Alan Rickman’s death reminds us that the most important legacy we leave is not about the quality of our work, but that of our relationships - how abundantly we gave of ourselves to those around us.

  • Inspired by tiles! Patterned tiles are so mesmerizing and these would be gorgeous in any kitchen or bathroom. It’s amazing what impact a few lines in the right places can have.

Have an amazing long weekend! Hope the extra day allows for more rest + play.
